Danúbia da Silva Leão, Brazil

Tell us about yourself: My name is Danúbia and I am a biologist and teacher. At the moment I am away from my teaching activities, because I am in the process of getting my professional qualification. I am in the second year of a masters in Environmental Sciences, researching Experiences of Recovery of Springs. I am a member of the Institute for Environmental Research and Education – Gaia, since 2012 and I am as president of the institute since 2019. Besides this, I am as vice-coordinator of the Brazilian Network of Youth from Biosphere Reserves and member of the Youth from Pantanal Biosphere Reserve. I am from Mato Groso, Brazil. What motivates me is nature and the relationships that we have with life and people; to live in a more sustainable world that respects all the biodiversity that the earth holds.

What did you do with the JWH grant? The JWH Scholarship is helping me to cover for English courses, personal training courses and analysis courses in my research with Spring Recovery Experiences.

What has the leadership development program brought you? The JWH scholarship has contributed to my knowledge of how to relate to people, helping in the environmental groups and networks I participate in and in my postgraduate research.

What is your dream? Contributing to environmental projects and training young people so that others have the same opportunity I am having today, to act in movements in favor of sustainability and science. I dream that other young people can attend higher education and graduate studies to build a more just, sustainable and solidary world.
