Komlan Adjoyi, Togo

This grantee is still in the process of their leadership development with the JWH Initiative.
As one of the founders of his organization Actions en Faveur de l’Homme et de la Nature (AFHON), Komlan has contributed immensely to the field of climate change awareness and sustainable project planning. Since 2009, he has been a research assistant for the organization’s climate change program, exploring opportunities related to mitigation of climate change, raising awareness of its global effects, and ensuring its integration into project planning. His nominator speaks to Komlan’s dedication to his cause- he is “hard working in his organization, he is usually the first to arrive at the office and the last to leave”. Komlan’s interests extend beyond climate change to water conservation and environmental degradation issues, as he is currently working on a project that aims to reduce rural population pressures on forest resources and encourage proper management of water resources by farmer groups.
Through his JWH Initiative grant work, Komlan hopes to gain a better understanding of sustainable development and the links between development requirements and environmental protection, as well as the vulnerability and adaptation of communities in sectors including water, agriculture, and energy. In expanding his theoretical knowledge, Komlan aims to have a strengthened position when representing developing communities in negotiations and conferences on environmental sustainability. Komlan will undergo leadership development training at LEAD Africa, take English language classes, and attend an international conference on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in Finland with his grant. Though he has already demonstrated he has enough will and strength to face and deal with professional challenges, Komlan’s leadership development through the JWH Initiative grant will only bolster his ability to lead AFHON onwards in working against climate change and environmental degradation.
