Olivia Maamari , Lebanon

This grantee is still in the process of their leadership development with the JWH Initiative.
Olivia is a pro-active Lebanese leader in sustainable development and environment preservation. She began working for Arcenciel in 2008 and quickly became an integral asset to the development of the organisation’s environmental program. Arcenciel is a Lebanese non-profit association committed to providing social, environmental and economical sustainable development of society by supporting fragile communities and integrating marginalised individuals.
She has talent in mobilising people and the resources needed to design and ambitiously tackle sustainability issues in Lebanon where a solution was previously lacking. Her accomplishments include developing a national network for sustainable health care waste management and a national network for sustainable recyclable waste management. The revenue generated from selling the recyclable waste is used for investment in social services. She also participated in the development of a bio-pesticide alternative and a water management project for local communities.
Olivia is an avid learner and never misses an opportunity to expand her knowledge and network. Using her JWH Initiative grant, Olivia will attend the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Ingénieurs en Arts Chimiques et Technologiques in Toulouse for a training program on the Optimisation of Infectious Health Care Waste Treatment by Sterilisation. She aims to learn about optimising sterilisation processes used for infectious hospital waste treatment and exchange ideas for potential solutions for Lebanese hospitals.
