The JWH Initiative, Both ENDS and Baobab Connections (a platform for urban youth) have jointly developed and piloted a project which aims at empowering and educating urban youth on environmental issues.  Urban Earth leaders is a youth leadership development program connecting the creative power of young artists in poor urban communities with the urgency of the global environmental crisis. It educates young urban artists on issues related to social justice and ecological sustainability and provides practical skills training to enable them to pass on their acquired knowledge to their communities. Their message and their strengthened position as community leaders will inspire their communities to adopt sustainable lifestyles through individual awareness and collective action. The project has been piloted for two years in Cape Town, South Africa. In the coming months and years we will aim at carrying out similar initiatives in other big cities around the world.
